Buying a house can be such an exciting and new chapter of someone’s life. I want to share with you an experience I had recently and how it challenged me to evaluate what I really want in life, how I want to live, and more importantly where I want to live. My fiance Nicole and I almost bought a house and it actually came out of nowhere. We weren’t even looking. Funny enough, I was actually looking for a friend and happened to see a house I thought Nicole and I would love. The conversation went from “I wonder if she’ll like this house” to “Let’s see what we can get pre-approved for” Fast forward and we were already making our appointment to see the house in person that upcoming Tuesday. Did I mention how it was Sunday when we started this process? Waiting until Tuesday felt like forever but when it finally came to see it in real life, I got extremely excited about what could be. Have you ever felt like that before? Did you get extremely excited about the possibilities? I was already trying to figure out how our furniture would fit in certain rooms and what kind of splurge items I may be able to budget for.
THE BENEFIT OF THINGS NOT WORKING OUT
There are soooo many reasons why not buying a house was the best decision for my family and me. It definitely would have been a nightmare financially. Instead of the house being a blessing, it would have felt more like a curse. While homeownership is still a goal of mine I have faith that it will happen at the right time. When’s the right time you ask? When we can financially afford something that doesn’t have structural, plumbing, and electrical issues to name a few. Of course, there are a whole bunch of other factors to consider but the point is that I am at peace with the final result. I am so glad that my fiance and I trusted our gut instincts. *THANK YOU INTUITION*
There is so much that I’ve learned while working through allllll the feelings that come with the process of buying a house. Here is what I know to be true:
- Things will happen in their own time in their own way
- Trusting your instinct is NEVER wrong even if that doesn’t match your partner’s or spouses
- Slowing down will only help not hurt the process
- Writing a pro and cons list still works (LOL)
