Hey there! I want to share with you my first experience camping with my daughter Savannah! To paint a picture this was our very first camping experience. Like a tent, outside and everything! We went to a state park that was about 30 minutes from my home. I had changed the location last minute because I felt I would be more comfortable. When we got to our site we both were pretty excited because she and I have been wanting to go camping for a whiilllllle now. As soon as we got to our site we put up the tent and then the hammock. The hammock was awesome! I definitely plan to bring it on our hikes and picnics. It’s the little things.  |
Do you see how everything looks peachy keen here? Well….fast forward to couple of hours later and we find water inside our tent, our sleeping bag, and some of our things are soaked. My first thought was that maybe there’s a hole somewhere…I check. I didn’t see any visible holes small or big. We clean up the water. Savannah suggests that maybe one of our water bottles spilled…(she’s so sweet)After we’re done cleaning up, we have some unplanned fun in nature, and even took a spontaneous trip to the movies since it started to rain AGAIN! We highly recommend The Bad Guys. It’s hilarious and heartwarming at the same time. After the movies, we return to our tent…more water and then some!  At this point I’m still trying to keep a positive attitude while silently freaking out because now I”m convinced there’s a hole somewhere. Long story short, we ended up sleeping in my car. Yep, you read that right. We put the seats down, sleeping bags in, threw our pillows in there, and camped out in my car. I would like to say that I didn’t let these twists and turns get the best of me but I’d be lying. I was disappointed that we couldn’t sleep in the tent-like we planned. The great thing about this experience was, that I was completely present, and what a gift! I truly hope that Savannah will look back on this time and remember the wrestling match we had, dance parties in the tent, our random trip to the movies, all of the shenanigans, and more. A friend reminded me that it’s the unplanned moments that are memorable. |
